Setting Up Your Monthly Budget

How to use the budget tracker to record projected and actual spending each month.

The monthly budget

The Budget section gives you a simple projected vs. actual view of your monthly finances. It resets each month and is designed to complement your main investment tracking.

Getting started

  1. Click Budget in the sidebar
  2. Select the month and year at the top
  3. Default categories are pre-loaded. Click any line item to edit its Projected and Actual amounts
  4. Budget categories

    | Transportation | Car payment, insurance, fuel |

    | Health | Insurance premiums, gym, medical |

    | Debt | Credit cards, personal loans |

    | Daily Living | Groceries, dining, clothing |

    | Entertainment | Subscriptions, travel, hobbies |

    | Savings | Emergency fund, retirement contributions |

    Adding custom line items

    Click + Add Item within any category to add a custom budget line. Give it a name and enter your projected and actual amounts.

    Month-to-month

    Your budget data is stored per month. You can look back at previous months by changing the month selector at the top of the page.
